How do I learn Afrobeats dance moves at home?

Learn individual moves before routines — Afrobeats is built from named steps that are combined freely — and get the bounce right first, because the bounce in the knees is what every move sits on. Pick two or three moves from a beginner tutorial, drill each to the music until the bounce is continuous, then start joining them. Record yourself: stiffness in the knees is the thing beginners cannot feel and always see.

The bounce comes first

Before any named step, stand with soft knees and bounce on every beat, hips loose, shoulders down. Keep that going for a whole song. Every Afrobeats move is that bounce with something added; if the bounce stops when the arms start, the move looks stiff.

Moves, then combinations

Beginner tutorials teach steps by name. Learn three. Drill each alone to music, then alternate two, then all three. Routines come later and are easier when the moves are already automatic, because Afrobeats choreography is mostly moves you know in an order you do not yet.

What to check on video

Film a minute and watch the knees and the hips. Is the bounce continuous? Do the hips lead the move or follow the feet? Are the shoulders creeping up? Those three are the beginner tells, and they are invisible from the inside.
